Everything No One Explains About HRT, Bones, and Cholesterol at Midlife

I joined the Wellness Junkies podcast to talk about a few things I think get dismissed way too often in midlife. Namely, how much of what you're feeling actually starts years before menopause, and how hormones affect far more than hot flashes.
Symptoms Can Start a Decade Early
Perimenopause symptoms can begin up to ten years before menopause itself, and they get written off as normal aging constantly. That delay in taking symptoms seriously is one of the biggest gaps I see in how women are cared for.
Bioidentical Versus Synthetic, and Why Dosing Confuses People
A lot of the confusion around HRT comes down to not understanding the difference between bioidentical and synthetic hormones, or how the estrogen dose in a birth control pill compares to the doses used in hormone replacement. They're not the same conversation, even though people often lump them together.
Hormones, Cholesterol, and Bone Health Are Connected
Midlife hormonal changes affect your cholesterol and cardiovascular markers, not just your mood or your cycle. The same is true for bone density. This is part of why I talk about DEXA scans and osteoporosis prevention as part of the same conversation as hormone therapy, not a separate one.
Peptides and Testosterone Have a Place Too
Peptide therapy can support gut health, inflammation, and weight management, and testosterone has a real, evidence based role in women's health as well. Neither of these should be an afterthought in a midlife care plan.
You can hear the full episode, HRT, Hormones, Bones, and Cholesterol, on the Wellness Junkies podcast on YouTube. If any of this sounds like a gap in your own care, let's talk.
